A few thoughts on this website’s focus…

So… The Purple Fantastic’s premise (at least in my head) was to gather together all the favorite stories that I’ve read in recent years and trumpet my appreciation of them in the hope that other readers might discover these books as well… encouraging the authors to continue writing wonderful stories. As I am a gay man (arguably more demi than strictly gay), my tendency is to read books featuring men falling in love with other men. So that is what this site will tend to feature. BUT that said, as my own reading lists have expanded over time, the types of books that I have been discovering have been evolving as well.

Yesterday I was incredibly excited to hear from Molly Ringle (author of Lava Red Feather Blue, Sage & King, and many other books that you should absolutely check out – as will I) and I learned that she is indeed working on other stories set in Eidolonia (any more information than that will be hers to reveal when the appropriate time comes) but I do know that those stories may feature relationships outside the typical M/M spectrum, and of course I am going to feature all those stories on this site! And I loved Cemetery Boys and I am enormously excited for the follow up book, Yadriel und Julian, that is coming out later this fall. And his other book The Sunbearer Trials was another big dose of spectacular – that will be up on this site before long, as will its sequel whenever that book comes out.

Another really intriguing book is The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall – which features a strong female protagonist and her relationship with a pirate of ever-changing gender, so I hope to get that up on this site before long. There are so many amazing books out there and such limited time for reading if one wants to maintain a life outside of a book.

My point is, I’m still figuring this out. I want to feature books that I have personally read. And they will tend towards M/M relationships (including trans men). It is just going to take time to get a larger spectrum on here. This site will evolve. If you read a wonderful fantasy/adventure book featuring LGBTQA+ characters, let me know. Post it in the comments. (I’m still figuring out this comments thing… please be polite. Anything impolite will be deleted. And we seriously do not need links about viagra and carpet cleaning).

Thanks for visiting. And as a side note, I am really loving Kit Vincent’s Us, Et Cetera! If you haven’t read it yet, you should give it a go. 🙂
