Pursuits of Whimsey

Life is wonderfully ridiculous at times … and we each bring our own special brand of crazy into the mix.

Whether you are a curious kid, or an adult who hasn’t entirely admitted to growing up, this book of whimsical stories written in verse is just for you.

If you are growing sentient fungi in your shower, looking for the perfect spot to bake in the sun, or sometimes doubt you are the amazing person you know you could be, Pursuits of Whimsey will provoke and amuse you. Join Mildred the Miserable Mermaid, Blair (with the incredible flair), Betsy Duff , and a host of others in some playful word-play that is entertaining, poignant and worth the visit.

“This is Fantastic!”

“DELIGHTFUL!!!! What a treat!”

“A bright light on a cloudy day!”

THE UNFORTUNATE TALE OF LITTLE BETSY DUFF

By Paul Manchester

Little Betsy Duff wanted skin just like leather.
She tanned every day- in all kinds of weather.
She’d cook just like bacon, right there in the sun,
with a buzzer to wake her when each side was done.
Yes, then she’d roll over- singing, “What can be keener
than to lie in the sun and fry like a wiener?”

Her Father said, “Don’t!  You’ll turn into a prune!”
But Betsy just laughed as she turned dark maroon,
saying, “I’m Betsy Duff and I want to be tough!
Only I’ll know when my skin’s tough enough!”

Benjamin Bog

Benjamin Bog loved owning a dog,
but hated to pick up her poop.
He’d walk her and feed her, he even de-flea’d her,
yet wouldn’t grab poop with a scoop!

or

Blair & His Incredible Flair

There was no doubt about it- despite their despair,
his parents could see their boy liked to do hair.
But he was very good. And few could deny
that this eight year old boy could tease hair three feet high…

The book is packed with stories of possibility.
