The Alabaster Hedgehog
I very much enjoyed spending time with these characters. They were so eager to get onto the page that they had a tendency to write themselves. Despite starting with an outline, I was frequently surprised as the events unfolded. It became a dance between the outline and listening to the characters and their circumstances. Thaddeus’s search for love amidst the absurd and the horrific was a fascinating journey.
When 18-year-old Thadeus’s parents kick him out for being gay, he takes refuge with a strange, elderly relative. He discovers a world of faeries, dangerous creatures, and sexy possibilities.
Thaddeus may even find someone to date, if he doesn’t need the date to be absolutely human… and if he doesn’t end up dead first.
“Awkwardly funny, occasionally twisted, and extremely imaginative….”
“A sex comedy, the world of faerie, and a dash of murder mystery.”
“An amusing read.”
(The Purple Fantastic Steam Meter gives this a 3… Thaddeus is 18 and the story does get a little sexy at times, but more on the lines of sex comedy than eros.)
